In this area of our website you will find contributions on the subject Digital Music Edition (Digitale Musikedition) such as, for instance, a brief introduction of the most important markup languages in the musicological field, an overview of various parameters for digital publications, personal statements and reflections on Digital Music Edition from our colleagues or cooperation partners, together with references to other projects from the domain Digital Edition.
For "born-digital" editions an encoding of all the possible relevant edition materials is virtually essential. At the same time, the encoding of music (notation) is far less established or tested than the encoding of (literary) texts. This area goes into the need for encoding and introduces important encoding formats together with their respective suitability for various areas of digital editions.
In this area you will find statements from our staff on the subject "digital music editions" as well as reports from our cooperation partners of their experiences in working on digital editions and with the Edirom tools.

Besides Edirom Project, there are of course other scholars and projects dealing with both the concepts and the implementation of digital music editions. In order to give a better survey of the research field in the following area, several of the most important projects are introduced and compared with the Edirom approach for easier assessment of each profile. In addition to the projects introduced here, there are still others that compared with the editions presented here offer though no essential technical or conceptual differences, so that their special assessment does not appear necessary.
